The first Hatching of 2014 was a huge success! Four teams pitched, but the real winner might be the environment.

The Teams

The four teams that pitched last night represented a variety of industries: HR, Health Care, Textiles, and Logistics. The teams were:

  • HR Social Media Platform
  • PicPad
  • McCormick Products
  • Go Green Trikes

Each team had compelling ideas, but at the end of the night, Go Green Trikes went home the winner. Still, we hope to see these folks continue to work on building their businesses and launching them here in Lansing. As Jeff Smith said, “Tonight was the end of nothing and the beginning of everything!”

HR Social Media Platform

Over 80% of professionals end up in the wrong job at some point. Professional coaches can help reduce the probability that someone ends up going down the wrong career path. Even better, the industry has grown by a factor of 9 in the past decade. This product seeks to build a social netowrk that capitalizes on that trend, while helping people to find the right opportunities and avoid the wrong ones.

PicPad

Hospitals have a lot of information on paper and regulations require them to keep copies of most of it. While the Electronic Medical Record industry has exploded in the past few years, many doctors and practioners continue to resist using these tools. Using fancy-schmancy Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) technology, PicPad wants to help doctors continue to use and embrace the paper they love and health care administrators get the digital records they need.

McCormick Products

It’s not every day you see a startup innovating in the textile space. It’s probably even less often that the startup is innovating a product used for weaving, one of human’s oldest practices. Yet, that’s precisely what Cindy McCormick is doing. She’s designed a new type of weaving tool that’s easier to use and more durable than other tools on the marketplace. As a practioner using her own product, this is definitely one to watch!

Go Green Trikes

The winner of last night’s Hatching, Go Green Trikes wants to bring tricycled-freight delivery to Lansing. A network of these trikes could increase the velocity of local deliveries, reduce traffic congestion and, best of all, are green! They’re already talking to their first potential customer, have ordered their first trike, and are set to launch on Earth Day, 2014.

Congratulations!

Congratulations again to each of the teams that presented last night! You did well and we’re excited to see you grow and be successful here, in the Lansing area. #LoveLansing!

What is the Hatching?
